Throughout the annals of human history, humanity has faced many challenges which altered its course. Whether its natural catastrophes or man orchestrated wars, they have put a profound impact on human civilization on this earth. Along with every calamity there sometimes comes opportunities in disguise as well like world wars made the world step into the realms of Neo-liberalism and put an end to colonization. Black Death in Europe instigated a whole new age of history in Europe, The Renaissance. These catastrophes not only change the normal but shape the future as well.

COVID-19 Mindmap by IICR

Pandemics are also such calamities with which world is still entangled. So far, Smallpox is the only pandemic which successfully has been eliminated through the world which too was done in the 1980s. HIV aids have become an endemic rather than just being an epidemic. In post Smallpox world, people started to contemplate that science would overcome epidemics and pandemics. Nevertheless, then the situation got worse as SARS, MERS, E-BOLA, Swine Flu, Zika were on the waiting list.2 Apart from effects on Human lives, these events also proved to be quite impactful on the Globe as well by effecting its geopolitical, geo-economic cogs.

So is the case with current world Vs Covid-19 pandemic. Started from the small city has now crippled the whole Globe by currently being on a spree of devouring cities. As this research is being penned down the victims of Covid-19 are increasing.

However, whenever a pandemic emerges, there are two main phases in which the world suffers one as primary, from extreme situation to its mildness then secondary the crucial one, post-pandemic status quo. Currently, the world is facing the steam of an ongoing crisis, while awaits for the second as this Fire settles down. Since the situation is too fluid right now, there is no such work which can forecast the exact post-Covid-19 scenario. However, it is for sure that it will bring considerable change to the world, whether in geopolitical or geo-economic or both in means.

By walking through the corridors of history, one can assert some amount of contemplation on the change’s world will phase.

India’s Stripping of Article 370: Destabilizing Regional Dynamics

India’s Stripping of Article 370: Destabilizing Regional Dynamics

The Islamabad Institute of Conflict Resolution (IICR) has successfully conducted a one day International Conference on “India’s Stripping of Article 370: Destabilizing Regional Dynamics” at Marriott Hotel, Islamabad November 22, 2019.
The main theme of the conference was to highlight the growing Indian atrocities in the terrorized state of Indian occupied Kashmir. By scraping article 370 and depriving Kashmiris of their basic human rights, India has led the foundation of new humanitarian calamities in the region. Despite the condemnation from many countries and through many international forums, India continues with its brutalities and specifically more than three months of inhumane curfew. Furthermore, RSS led Indian government is insistent to put regional stability at stake.
The conference was chaired by Former Foreign Secretary Mr. Riaz Khokar®. The eminent panellists of the conference were Amb. Ashraf Jehangir Qazi®, Maj. Gen. Raza Muhammad Khan®, Prof. Dr. Song Zhihui (Deputy Dean, School of International Studies, Sichuan University, China), Prof. Dr. Rifaat Hussian, and Ms. Sabah Aslam (ED, IICR).
The panel highlighted that being a key player in regional and global politics, India must act responsibly yet India fails to calculate the horrors that any of its misadventures can bring upon the region in general and Kashmir in particular. Even though, the acts of terror in order to inflict terror in civilian population is against the International Humanitarian Law as stated in Hague and Geneva conventions.
Ambassador Ashraf Jehangir Qazi® first speaker of the conference spoke on “India’s Misadventure: Putting Regional Stability at Stake”. The Ambassador told what happened on August 5, 2019 was started with India’s misadventure on February 26, 2019. He further said the international community is aware of Kashmir Issue and has embarrassed India but also has failed to do anything for the Kashmiri because of the Indian influence globally. No matter how many times India labels the issue as an internal matter, the world should not forget that it’s an internationally recognized disputed territory. Any unilateral action by India will not be acceptable. Mr. Ambassador said even though Kashmir has been described as Pakistan’s jugular vein still Pakistan would avoid war with India and go for diplomatic solutions no matter how worse the situation gets, as war between two nuclear states is not the solution.
Maj. Gen. ® Raza Muhammad, Chairman IICR, spoke on “Revoking Article 370 and its Geo-Political – Geo-Strategic Implications”. Gen Raza told that India has published new maps which includes parts of Pakistan and China and Surveyor General of India has passed those maps. He further said Muslims are lynched by the generation of those who wanted India as a secular state. India, however, seems to be acting as irritant in bringing stability, peace and harmony to the region. Moreover Indian intentions are clear and it will lead the region to an unwanted quagmire. Countries need to come out if not in support of Kashmir but for the sake of regional peace and stability.
Prof. Song Zhihui, China who holds a history of economic cooperation and is determined for global economic prosperity stands by Pakistan in this hour as well. This is internationally recognized issue and has to be resolved through UN resolutions. The Chinese dream is not limited to the uplifting of China but of the region in the form of rise of the east. This all is also linked to CPEC, but he affirmed that CPEC is here to stay, and through development and prosperity, tourism Pakistan can further the diplomacy.
The next speaker on panel was Prof. Dr. Rifaat Hussain, who spoke on the global fact that Kashmir is a tri-lateral issue rather than bi-lateral. He further said that any advancement regarding Kashmir should have been done through unanimous international decision and since India has taken this step unilaterally it has no legal significance.
The last speaker Ms. Sabah Aslam discussed the radical aims of so called democratic BJP. She said that BJP is the political manifestation of Hindutva ideology and they are implementing its fundamentalist ideas through politics. She further said that the so-called secular India shape-shifted into radical India after BJP throned in Delhi. Their views are violent, actions are violent, and the inclusive India is now exclusively Hindu India all because of BJP. The hatred is embedded in their minds historically as the assassinator of Mahatma Gandhi, Nathuram Godse had affiliation with same organization as of Modi and Amit Shah. And what else one can expect from a political wing of an extremist organization RSS, if not inhumane curfew in Kashmir, mob lynching, and rape. Land of Kashmir has quenched blood of many freedom fighters and this will not go unanswered it doesn’t matter how hard Delhi try.
The conference was well attended by Foreign Dignitaries, Govt. officials, Academicians, Social activists, Academic Scholars and Students, and personnel’s of international and national organizations.
Former Foreign Secretary Mr. Riaz Khokhar gave the concluded remarks after the Question and Answer session. He said that India will not stop, and Modi is here to stay, at least till 2025. The year 2025 is RSS’s 100th anniversary. Pakistan needs to maneuver new strategies. Pakistan have to have workable relations with USA.
Maj. Gen. Raza Muhammad® gave the vote of thanks to the participants and speakers. The conference was then followed by distribution of mementos and lunch.
